The Faint at Courtyard Cafe - September 2001
Some super old pics of The Faint at Courtyard Cafe at the University of Illinois Student Union - the “stage” there is just a platform that is about a foot high. A friend saw these photos and said that it looked like Hell - all red lights!

Dead Confederate at Spaceland - February 25, 2009
Every time I listen to the song Get Out by Dead Confederate, I end up listening to it about 10 times in a row. Seriously.
I first saw the band in 2008, opening for R.E.M. at Stubb’s during SXSW. I missed them the next two (I think?) times they were in LA and finally was able to make it out to Spaceland to see them.
They closed with a cover of Sonic Youth’s Diamond Sea (one of my favorite SY songs) - there’s a version from another show at hype machine via the music slut.

PJ Harvey and John Parish at El Rey - March 23, 2009
This was actually the first time I’ve seen PJ Harvey live aside from a time when she played bass for Moris Tepper. Really great show - a combination of songs from A Woman A Man Walked By and Dance Hall at Louse Point. At the end she said “maybe see you in June” so I’m hoping for another LA date this summer.
